Plane-addict

June 7, 2009 and woke up early for me not to miss my 8:55 AM Air Asia flight from Phuket to Bangkok. The last part of my Asian trip (Singapore, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Phuket and Bangkok Thailand).

Sleepy and tired but full of excitement. That’s what I exactly feel when I reached the fantastic airport of Phuket.
But I still managed to save some energy for my half-day tour to Bangkok because of the warm welcome of the Thai personnel in the airport.

They’re very glad to help you in any ways that they can offer. From the airport’s entrance, trolleys, waiting area and until you reach your destination.

But even if I already reached my destination, all I can feel is their kindness and hospitality.

Honestly, I found too hard to understand some of their words but you can feel from the smiles in their faces of how special you are to them.

While we’re waiting for our FD 3022 plane in Phuket airport, all I can do is to sit, think, plan, stare at the map (and look around the surroundings) what I’m going to do in Bangkok.

At first, my plan is to have a back-pack style of touring the city from Suvarnabhumi airport with my sling bag, plastic full of souvenirs, and my big stroller bag. I think that’s the weirdest plan I ever had, because Suvarnabhumi is toooooooo far from the Bangkok’s CBD.

Good thing I was looking around and saw this Tour Information stall in the waiting area just in front of me.

Then here’s the roll-call to the passengers for Bangkok. And eventually, I left that guilt in the airport when I board the plane because all I can feel is excitement. Excitement because I’ll be going to Bangkok and of course, another plane experience for me again.

When the plane’s wheel touched Suvarnabhumi, I was greeted by different planes on the way.

Fantastic! Whoah! I really love planes.

While the plane is taxiing in the airport ramp, I’m wondering why our plane is not going near to the terminals. All of a sudden, we were dropped-off on the tarmac for us to ride the shuttle bus going to the domestic airport. Ugh! A little hassle for us, that’s what I thought. Anyway, I have no choice but to follow the line.

But to least of my expectation when the driver started the engine and left the pick-up area, it’s like we’re touring the airport (hmmp). And suddenly I saw a lot of planes, as in LOTS OF PLANES.

I saw B747, B777, B737, A340, A330, A320 and a lot more in different airlines. Oh my god! That’s the only word I can speak in my mind. This is such a nice place. I wanted to tell the driver to stop the bus for us to take some pictures but it’s already in the mid-day knowing that all of us passengers and I are now starving.

Next time, I’ll ride Air Asia again because of this one-of-a-kind experience.

IMPOSSIBLE ? nothing.......
16 Aug 2009 by Sashi
The one dollar airline , they say ...... the airline it was , ...well , look at her now , AIRASIA . The pinnacle of success , the admiration of many and the envy of others.
AIRASIA under the helm of the MAN has reached heights never scaled before and depths ever traced before , blasting away the IMPOSSIBLE and capturing the hearts of all , young and old.
To imagine , that young boy who once sat by his hometown river looking at that metal bird up high wishing if he could have his turn to fly in it and at that moment looking down the river to his parents , making ends meet by fishing in swamps to support the family . And he told himself , that metal bird is just a bird , it is nothing great to fly in it or fly one , hiding his dream , fronting the image of his old ones slogging it out in the river.............how would they fly when they can barely make a months food supply?
ITS A BOY'S DREAM AND IT REMAINED ONE ........
And that same boy , today made his dream come true ....... as he walked in the airport he once thought he would never touch foot....LCCT , the portal of many dreams , the A320s , the birds of steel that he admired were now in front of him and he glanced at his boarding pass and a drop of tear as he noted a number C15 , thats his seat on the big bird!
THAT BOY GOT HIS DREAM THIS TIME..........

AIRASIA has been built with PEOPLE in mind always , its a dreamcaster , bridging hearts and emotions and this is what makes her a company to be reckoned always......

The MAN has kept his word and resilience and HE has made that boy's dream come true.....
Thank you , MR Tony Fernandes...

And that boy has pledged his note and he told himself , the next he comes back , he is to be in a black tie , a briefcase , polished shoes , and on the big bird announcing ........
WELCOME ABOARD AIRASIA ,LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING.....

THANK YOU AIRASIA....

Yes , I want to be a pilot (its never too late with AirAsia)

Bali All To Myself
14 Aug 2009 by Tham
Friends were appalled when I told them I was traveling in Bali for 10 days :
"You were alone-ah? Traveling alone, good meh?"
"What did you do, having 10 days in Bali?"
"Bali very small island, what can you do there? 10 days, such a long time."

Bali is a big island compared to Pulau Pinang or Singapore. It is almost 19x the size of Penang Island and almost 9x the size of Singapore. You can find practically everything you want for a great holiday escapade in Bali : trekking, nature walks, mountains, temples, volcanoes, art, shopping, temples, food, organic stuff, temples, biking, cycling, temples, padi fields, 7-star spa resorts, temples, surfing, para-sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, temples......really, everything you want for a good time.

I have been to Honolulu, Hawaii and I was in Kuta, Bali. I would say that what Hawaii is to the West, Bali is offering it to the South Pacific, maybe minus a few G-strings and biceps. But at a fraction of the cost for Asians, Bali is always the best choice.

I like this description from one of the website about the island which many Balinese embrace Hinduism : "Bali is a society of hamlets clustered around temples. Bali as a culture organism, the villages are its vital organs, and the network of temples its nervous system."

Where did I go in Bali? You may want to follow these route too.

Kuta - south : beach resort, sun, sea, water sports, thousands of tourists, constantly jam packed with people, action place.

Ubud - central : art town, handicraft, creative stuff, organic foods, spa, spiritual activities, yoga, nature walks, great foods especially Babi Guling, Bebek Betutu and Bebek Bengil.

Mt Batur - north east : temples, Pura Penulisan, Pura Gunung Kawi (Water Temple), mountainous terrain, restaurants on side of cliffs.

Mt Agung - north east : mountain scenery, cool air, Besakih Temple, lunch en route is best.

Amed - east : beachside resorts, azure sea, hardly anyone around, beautiful beach and lovely villagers.

Mt Lempuyang - east : about 3,000 ft above sea level, a sacred Balinese once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage trek up, with more than 1,000 steps to the summit with 6 temples along the way.

Candidassa - east : beach resort, spa resort, small place but lots of beautiful eateries and restaurants.

Tanah Lot - south west : temple in the middle of the ocean, great sunset viewing point.

Uluwatu - south : temple perched on a cliff, beautiful sunset and sunrise viewing point.

Sanur, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua - all beachside resorts.

So many things to do in Bali, all alone to enjoy it. Hmmm....so in touch...

Even having breakfast on the beach under a coconut tree, banana pancake with honey, fried egg and coffee + the breeze from the idyllic sea at 7 on a bright and sunny morning, makes it all worthwhile to live.
