n the current world, situational leadership plays an important role. Different styles have to be used by the managers according to the different situations to suit the needs required in that situations. The most suitable leadership style is selected depending on the analysis of different requirements that are demanded by the current situation you are facing. Your Leadership has to change from one person to another based on the competencies in the job areas and commitment to the job of different employees. There is an option for you to lead the same person differently at different times.
Situational leadership process has different steps which are to be followed by any leader following this form of leadership. Firstly, prepare overviews for each employee based on their tasks, next for each tasks of the employees you can assess them. Later you have to take a decision to decide which leadership style has to be taken up on which tasks? You can also call all the employees and talk about the happening situations. Then together decide a plan, follow the plan, check if it’s working properly, and correct it if not.
Situational leadership also has certain strengths and benefits. The main benefit this type of leadership is that it is very easy to use and understand to anyone in the first trial of implementation. However, like in every leadership style, situational leadership also has some disadvantages and limitations which come as a part of the package.
Differentiating between Management and Leadership is lacking because it does not give a clear cut difference between the two, what is called the Management style can also be referred to as the Leadership style. More on leadership doesn’t concern basically to make decisions, but it is all about motivating people. Leadership style also doesn’t cut down the amount of decision making either. It concentrates too much on the person in charge and his tasks. Behaving differently in different kind of situations is simply a trivial fact of life when it comes to leaders and managers behaving differently.
